On your host, Dr. Melva board certified radiation oncologist, serial entrepreneur, and investor, and I help physicians and other healthcare professionals create multiple streams of income with clarity, leverage, and simplicity so that you can turn your job into a hobby and trading those golden handcuffs for true wealth.

All right. All right. All right. Welcome back. Welcome back. I hope that you're enjoying the series that we are doing here. On the 1% code podcast about money conversations in today's episode, I want you to change the way you think about money. Okay. I want you to change the way you think about money. Well, how do you do that?

So you have to expand your definition of money. You'll hear it tossed around a lot about your money mindset and how you view money. Well, Regardless of what you've heard before. I hope that this talk today adds to that. So let's get started. Money is a tool. Okay. And when you believe that money is a tool that will get you where you want to be in life.

You will be thinking about money very differently, because let me ask how many of you look at money as an exchange for good or service, or when we say money, you think about debt or you think about legacy or wealth. You really want to see where you are with your relationship, with money to do that. You have to be committed to making the change about the way you think about money.

So what are some ways to show commitment and change one you can start to read or. Listen to audio books. That are financial books, all about money. It helps you to learn how to be better with money and you get less stressed. And there's more peace when you have a plan and you understand your identity and your relationship with money than you did before.

Some of my favorite. And I'm sure many of you listening to this have already read them. If you already read them, it's okay to read them again. Every time I've listened and or read to these books, I learned something new. So number one will be, think and grow rich by Napoleon hill. Number two is the millionaire.

The store by Stanley and Dunka I read this actually, my husband and I read this together when we were dating a long time ago. And of course, rich dad, poor dad with Robert Kiyosaki. So those are some of my go to personal finance books that will really help you to change the way you think about money.

Next stop, focusing on what others have. Like what, like stop now. Okay. Because when we get into that comparison or keeping up with the Joneses, it is negative energy that doesn't really help you to move forward on your money goals, your financial goals, where you want to be wealth wise, your legacy. So stop worrying about what other people are doing.

Just focus on. Where it is. You want to go, the people you're bringing into your network, what your mentors and coaches are telling you to focus on and stop worrying about what the person next door is doing, because it's really not going to help you. Then you have to be grateful and practice gratitude, like all the time.

I mean all the time. And if you don't know what gratitude is, it's crazy. I went in, gosh, it was about. Five years ago or so now I've spoken to medical school with a group of, I believe they were second year medical students. And I had a slide all about your, why, you know, finding your purpose, living your best dream out.

And I shared some tips from Simon. Sineck his book, finding your wife. You haven't read that. You need to read that too. And I talked about gratitude and I did this whole section on gratitude. And when I looked at the second year medical school class, I asked how many of them even knew what I meant. My gratitude.

And I got like the deer in headlights look, and I was thinking, oh my goodness, what's going on? So if you don't know what gratitude is, I want you to look it up. Okay. I don't think I need to tell you, but I want to make sure you're being grateful. You're practicing gratitude. From the time you wake up to the time you go to sleep, you will change the way you think about money in your relationship with money.

Okay. Next stop the judgment and forgive yourself. And the reason I'm saying this is that. I didn't realize for me early on in my entrepreneurial journey, when things didn't go right as they, they sometimes, you know, we'll often will and there's failure, and then you move forward from failure or disappointment.

I didn't realize how much judgment I applied to myself and I would speak to people or coaches. And they they'd say like, Dr. Melva, you, you have to be easy on yourself. You have to forgive yourself. And I'm like, what are you talking about? Like, I'm not upset. I just, you know, I'm really upset actually, that this didn't go well, or I lost this amount of money or I didn't make as much money as I thought or whatever it was like, whenever that entrepreneurial obstacle that's going to happen was, and I didn't see that I was actually placing judgment on myself.

And what I recently learned, actually speaking to a mindset mentor, who coaches, I believe she works with real estate professionals. Is that moving forward? Can happen or you can move forward with awareness. But you don't move forward if you're in a constant place of judgment of yourself and of your actions.

So it's the same with money. A lot of us have money stories that we're not proud of. Maybe we're not proud to share. We don't want someone to find out or it doesn't align with our goals. We're not getting the results that we want with money and the financial goals. And this goes for even those of you were top income earners.

I'm talking to you because once you've accumulated six high six, figure seven figures. You can still have disappointed when you don't, for example, hit the eight figure goal or the nine figure goal, or maybe some of us have million dollar quarter goals. I was listening to one of my mentors and last year she runs a Facebook ads agency.

They hit a million dollars in sales in one quarter in the fourth quarter. So imagine the judgment that she could have placed on herself. If she didn't hit that goal. And some of us are trying to hit million dollar sales in a year. Right. But when you think about it, some of us have already done that. And now we're looking at a quarter or, you know, one of my other investors in the trading industry who has a million dollar day.So it's all perspective, but regardless of how much or how high your money goal is, you want to get there without judgment. So forgive yourself, like go easy. Okay. And lastly, You have to believe in yourself. Okay. Confidence, courage. These all go together. You're not going to change the way you think about money.

If you don't believe that you can one make that change to be committed to that change and three, that it's possible for you to have a different relationship with money and believing that the past is not a dictator of your future. Okay. And I, I know I say this all the time, but we can change our situations, including money, jobs, finance, marriage, you know, parenting situations.

There's a way out. So as you think about changing the way you think about money, I want to leave you with this tip that I love from Tony Robbins awaken the giant within. He teaches that when you encounter setbacks in your journey to wealth, that you should develop a pattern of consistent questions that will empower you.

So you stay motivated to keep working on those goals. So here are a couple of the questions that Tony Robins suggest what is great about this product. What is not perfect yet. And the yet tells your brain that it will soon be perfect, right? So you're like you have that trigger to work on your brain and then it's, what am I willing to do to make it the way that I want, what am I willing to do no longer in order to make it the way I want and how can I enjoy the process while I do what is necessary to make it the way I.

Uh, negative mind will never lead to a positive experience, a positive life or positive relationship with money. I want you to start believing that not only are you capable of achieving everything that you want and desire, but that you deserve all the success in the world. So get out. Set your goals, work on the focus and come back and tell me what happens.
